Facility Inspections
While this facility earned a decent overall rating, its inspections rating is notably more impressive than its overall grade. Due to a strong government inspection report this year, it earned one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. We weighed the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in computing our grade in this area. This facility provided 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's next highest category was long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this category, it still fared relatively badly. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility administered the vaccine to 95.736435 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable statistic. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was not nearly as favorable. We found that this facility had 2.1 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a concerning rate.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive area was short-term care, which is the last area we analyzed. For this category, we awarded this nursing home a D. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is frequently a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Given its grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected here. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 32.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
