Facility Inspections
To go along with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given a favorable long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B. For residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 77.6 percent of its patients. This is a few points less than we expected. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.57 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility is also strong in the category of short-term care, where it was given a score of B. It outpaced most nursing homes in this category. In our short-term care rating, we try to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. The last measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that it performed better than most nursing homes in this area with 50.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our next category, this nursing home was awarded a highly favorable nursing grade. This nursing home did not prove to have any real weak links. Our nursing score analyzes many factors, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.
