Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we actually gave it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it received an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a solid grade in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. Our short-term care grades are crucial for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a greater volume of physical therapist hours to its residents than the average nursing home. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. It performed better than most facilities with 54.8 percent of its patients returning home.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility only received a D for its long-term care grade, which is well below average in this category. Facilities that don't fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this facility administered the vaccine to just 82.00837 percent of its residents, which is well below average. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. While it had 1.79 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was not bad since it had more complex patients. This was its best score in this category
The final category we analyzed is nursing. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 2.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. On top of receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this place was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found this facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic dragged down this facility's nursing score significantly.
