Long-term Care Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
Turning to another one of this place's strengths, it also earned a very impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections proved to be one of its best category grades. We awarded this nursing home an A. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
The third highest area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a facility's rehabilitation services In order to have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. We were not able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the final area, this nursing home was awarded an acceptable nursing grade. Although this wasn't nearly as dominant as some of its other scores, this is still not the end of the world. The nursing score considers several subcategories. The most heavily weighted factor is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we look at quality-based metrics, such as the percentage of patients who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are measures of the quality of nursing care.
