Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we gave it a B- for inspections. This score is more respectable than the facility's overall score. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility an B-. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses are with patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, while this nursing home got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this statistic.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a grade of B- in this area. In computing our short-term care grades, we size up the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is considered to be a reliable assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The real question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Our final category is long-term care, in which we gave this facility a B- in this category. In calculating our long-term care scores, we scrutinize the personal care offered to a facility's patients. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
