Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
Although we were not high on this nursing home overall, we gave it a B in nursing. This score is much more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. When determining our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these areas as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a strong grade in short-term care. This nursing home received a B in this category, which is one of our higher scores. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. One of this nursing home's strengths is physical therapy hours. We found that it offers more hours with physical therapists to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 43.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
This facility earned mediocre inspections in recent years. We awarded them a C in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility had 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This means that it avoided the more serious classes of deficiencies. Lastly, we would like to point out that this facility received government fines in recent years. Fortunately these fines were on the lower end of the spectrum. However, this still is not what you like to find.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, which turned out to be a weak link for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for the area of long-term care. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 93.181816 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.7 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
