Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection grades are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, this facility also was awarded favorable short-term care grades this year. Indeed, we awarded it one of our higher scores in that area, with a grade of B+. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing score is primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving a patient even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we scored is long-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a B-. This actually is this facility's worst area. This is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility provided the vaccine to 95.08197 percent of its patients, which is an above average total. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
