Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our more favorable grades in that category with a grade of B+. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this nursing home earned a somewhat respectable short-term care rating in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in that category. In forming our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The last metric we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Tragically, this facility received an F for its long-term care grade. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 81.84714 percent of its residents. This is several points below average. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility did not fare well in this category either. With a very poor grade of F in nursing, this is really as terrible as it gets. Our nursing score weighs several subcategories. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This particular facility offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is well below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
