Although this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it did receive a very good grade in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an C. In calculating a facility's nursing rating, we look at the number of hours nurses are with patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care provided.

We gave this nursing home a grade of just D for our long-term care rating. This is not one of our better scores. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated 87.841194 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly below what we expected. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Switching gears to our last category, this nursing home really didn't perform well in this category either. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is really as as uninspiring as it gets. In the category of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Considering its grade in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.8 percent of its residents returning home.
