Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B for our short-term care rating. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that it performed better than most facilities in this area with 52.1 percent of its patients returning home. At most facilities, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

This nursing home also didn't perform too badly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a C in that area, which turned out to be among its higher scores. Long-term care grades are generally used to assess a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a rehabilitation facility. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.651566 percent of its patients. The last statistic we assessed was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 4.08 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

This nursing home did not receive favorable inspection reports in recent years. In fact, it only received a grade of D for its inspection grade. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. You should be especially cautious when considering a facility with severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This particular facility was assessed 5 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this place was assessed significant government fines recently amounting to more than $100,000. This often indicates that a bad track record spanned multiple years.

The final category we rated is nursing, which is a weak spot for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for our nursing category. There are a variety of subcategories within this area. Most of these criteria are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This facility averaged just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores hurt this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
