Short-term Care Quality
Moving on our third area, this nursing home was given an excellent short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A in this category. Our short-term care scores are critical for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a wide range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
The fourth category we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home received an A. This rounded out an elite report card. Not many facilities received an A- or higher in every category. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 84 percent of its patients. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
