Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility earned an excellent nursing rating. We gave it an B+ in that category. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we analyzed is short-term care, where this nursing home received a B- in this category. Short-term care ratings are critical for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. This means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Our final area is long-term care, where we awarded this nursing home a B- in that category. Our long-term care grade focuses on a facility's personal care instead of the skilled nursing and medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. One of the criteria we considered on top of nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 81.456955 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
