In addition to faring well overall, this nursing home received high marks in our short-term care category as well. It received our highest score in that category with a score of A+. Short-term care grades are vital for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we assessed. It supplied about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than a typical nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation with 60.1 percent of its patients returning home.

This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the nursing home's inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the biggest complements we can pay to a nursing home. Inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. It doesn't appear that we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. We would like to have more data for this nursing home. Without having access to complete information regarding deficiencies, it was a challenge to grade the place in terms of this category.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. When computing our nursing ratings, we weigh both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls resulting in major injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home California. Preventing major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The next category we assessed was long-term care, where this facility was awarded a grade of C. Even though this proved to be its lowest category grade, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. In calculating our long-term care grades, we look at the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's residents. After assessing the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. While it had 1.77 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than the majority of nursing homes due to it having some more complicated patients.
