Facility Inspections
To pair with a strong overall grade, we awarded this place an A+ for our inspection category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for its short-term care grade. In our short-term care grade, we try to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Pennsylvania in this area with 69 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our nursing rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with residents, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any nursing home the nation in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our next area, this facility was awarded a highly favorable long-term care score. Even though this is not quite as dominant as several of its other category grades, this is nevertheless one of our more favorable scores a facility can receive. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. This facility's vaccination records weren't as strong as its number of nursing hours per resident. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 83.28076 percent of its residents. We would like to see some improvement in this area next year. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.6 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
