Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. In calculating our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is among the more impressive figures in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by both of these statistics. In addition to providing impressive levels of care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any facility in the country when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
This exemplary nursing home also fared very well in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Very few facilities performed better in this area. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the elite level of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.75 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.37 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. We were not able to track down deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our next category, this nursing home was given a high-end short-term care score. We awarded it an A- in this area, resulting in this facility receiving straight A's. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is considered to be a solid assessment of a facility's rehabilitation services. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
