Facility Inspections

This nursing home received a strong overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave them an A in this category. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

We also awarded this facility a score of A- for our short-term care score. Our short-term care ratings are critical for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. It doesn't appear that this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. This nursing home fared much better in the final datapoint we considered in this category, which was the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in North Carolina with 58.5 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of the short-term patients are able to return home.

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing rating includes many components, but the primary one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.

The final category we rated was long-term care. This nursing home received a strong long-term care rating in our assessment, with a B. This nursing home truly doesn't have any weaknesses. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 99.411766 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. This place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 1.16 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a significantly better hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
