Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this place favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this category, which was much better than its overall score. Our inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a list of deficiencies flagged. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we gave this facility an B-. There are a variety of datapoints included in this grade. Many of these datapoints relate to nurse staffing. This facility provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, while this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a solid score in the area of short-term care, with a grade of C. In forming our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that it performed respectably in this area with 48.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is long-term care, is this nursing home's worst category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that area. For patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 98.130844 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.7 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
