Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
One reason this proved to be a quality nursing home is that it earned a very impressive short-term care grade. In fact, this turned out to be its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility a B+. Our short-term care grade is generally employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections. We awarded it an B+ for that area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This place received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our third area, this nursing home also received a score of B for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 88 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our final area, this facility was given a B- in nursing, which is a decent grade. The nursing score assesses quite a few data points, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we like to look at quality-based statistics, such as the percent of residents who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are indicators of the quality of nursing care.
