Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. One of the datapoints we considered after this facility's impressive nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the elderly. The last datapoint we assessed is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. While it had 2.11 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was close to the national average since it had some more complex patients.
Facility Inspections
Turning to another one of this nursing home's strengths, it also received a very impressive inspection score. Inspections turned out to be one of its best category grades. We gave this facility an A. Our inspection scores are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides an incredible 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is much more care than what is offered by most facilities. Lastly, this place also excelled in several quality measures we assessed. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is short-term care, in which this facility was awarded a C. This ended up being this facility's least impressive category. This is still nothing to be ashamed of. In the category of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 42.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
