Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

We want point out that this place's long-term care grade exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a grade of B+ in this category. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 88.793106 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be slightly lower than we were hoping for but still a respectable percentage. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility received high grades in nursing as well. In fact, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an B-. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is far below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our inspections rating. This is a very respectable nursing score. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had positive view of this facility's recent inspections.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's worst area was short-term care, which is the last area we looked at. In this category, we gave this nursing home a D. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the figures we looked at. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.6 percent of its residents returning home.
