Facility Inspections
On top of performing well overall, this facility also received nearly flawless government inspections. Consequently, it earned one of our best scores in that area with an A+. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was superb in our short-term care category. We awarded them an elite grade of A+ in this category. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This place performed as well as just about any facility in Pennsylvania in this area with 60.8 percent of its patients returning home. With most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. Our nursing grade focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Out of this total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place also performed well in some of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we rated is long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a strong nursing grade in our assessment, with a grade of B. While this wasn't quite as elite as many of its other scores, this is nevertheless one of our stronger scores in that area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the very impressive nursing care provided by this facility, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.42 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
