Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that category with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded its next best category score in the category of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of B- in this area, which is a reasonably acceptable score. In the category of long-term care, we focus on the amount of care offered by a facility, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.28261 percent of its residents. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. When determining our nursing grades, we weigh both staffing levels and the skill levels of those nurses. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our final category, this nursing home really didn't perform well here either. With a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. With its grade in this category, we were not surprised to find that this place was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we looked at. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.2 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
