Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a B. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.6376 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Nursing ratings are largely based on a facility's nurse staffing. This particular facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This statistic is significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Moving on to our final category, this nursing home didn't perform very well here either. With a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Our short-term care grade is typically used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Given its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this place is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.6 percent of its patients returning home.
