Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to point out its decent inspection reports in recent years. We awarded it a relatively respectable grade of B- in that category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this facility an B-. In determining a facility's nursing rating, we consider the number of hours nurses are with patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This facility provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics. Although this nursing home got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this subcategory. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a resident at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a decent grade of B-. In the area of long-term care, we weigh the quantity of services provided by a nursing home, as opposed to more medically-intensive services. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. Unfortunately, this facility vaccinated only 29.054056 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final category, this nursing home didn't fare well in this category either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in short-term care, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. In forming these short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Considering its weak rating in this category, we weren't stunned to discover this place offers significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
