Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility received impressive marks in the area of long-term care as well. Indeed, it received one of our most dominant grades in that category with a score of A-. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.3921 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of C. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. In determining a facility's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses commit to patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a D in short-term care, rendering this the facility's weakest category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. It appears that this place was below average in several staffing areas we looked at. It supplied fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5 percent of its patients returning home.
