Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its favorable overall score, we gave this facility a grade of A- for the area of inspections. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to this nursing home's list of achievements, it also was given a very favorable short-term care grade. We awarded them a strong strong of A- in this area. Short-term care grades are generally employed to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. We analyzed the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of moving residents even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next area we analyzed is long-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's worst category. We gave this facility a grade of D in this area. Of course, this score pulled down the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Facilities that don't fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 90.81633 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
