Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not high on this facility's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Unfortunately, this place received a category L deficiency, which was unexpected given its inspection rating. This category of deficiency indicates inspectors uncovered a widespread deficiency placing patient health or safety in imminent danger. While other aspects of this nursing home's inspection report were favorable, we have some reservations.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's second highest category was long-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 98.77551 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Tragically, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care grade. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is frequently a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Given its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the fourth area, this nursing home did not perform well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is just about as terrible as it gets. Nursing grades are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is not a very impressive figure. This nursing home also had abysmal marks in several of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hour totals. For starters, we looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this datapoint. This is quite concerning when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of receiving a very poor nursing score.
