Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong facility overall, this facility also excelled at short-term care, where it received a grade of A+. Short-term care grades are critical for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing services. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, this nursing home also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category generally have very few severe deficiencies. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. When calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses are seeing patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a patient more often.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a B-. While this is its weakest category grade, this is still nothing to be ashamed of. Long-term care grades are generally used to grade a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
