Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well overall, this facility also received nearly flawless government inspections. Therefore, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A+. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Only a select group of nursing homes received a better grade in this category. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.75785 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility was given a favorable short-term care score as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B+. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The next area we graded was nursing. This facility was given a better than average nursing rating in our assessment, with a B. Even though this wasn't nearly as good as a few of its other grades, this is still one of the better grades in that area. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a resident at least once a day.
