Facility Inspections

Grade: A

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's second most favorable category was long-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.259254 percent of its patients, which is an above average datapoint. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's third best area turned out to be its short-term care score, where it received a B-. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final category we graded was nursing. For this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
