Long-term Care Quality
Another reason we graded this nursing home so highly is that it was awarded an A+ long-term care score. This is simply as dominant as it gets in this category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.15 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home also received favorable short-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we awarded it one of our higher scores in that area, with a grade of B. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that it fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 51.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded was nursing, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of C. While this proved to be its least impressive category score, this is nevertheless not a terrible score. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
