Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We also wanted to point out that this facility has received excellent health inspections recently. We awarded them an A in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. There are a number of criteria included in this category. Many of these factors relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also would like to note the fact that this nursing home was given a high-end grade of A- in our long-term care area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 98.31933 percent of its residents. This is a proven method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we rated was short-term care. We gave this nursing home an acceptable score in that category, with a grade of B-. While this isn't as strong as many of this facility's other scores, it is still a middle of the pack score. In computing our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is often a fair measure of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.
