Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent health inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category grades was in the category of long-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B. It actually outpaced most facilities in this area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 94.68085 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facilities third best area was short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack grade in this area. In our short-term care score, we try to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this category is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded was nursing. We gave this facility a D in the area of nursing, making this the facility's least impressive category. We analyzed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with patients, in determining our score in this category. This particular facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This number is far below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
