On top of receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home also earned top notch inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best grades in this category, with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

This facility truly excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received a grade of A. Only a select group of facilities performed better in this category. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing rating is largely tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a somewhat concerning figure as it is well below the national average. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place.

The next category we analyzed is long-term care, which is this facility's worst area. We awarded this facility a D in this area. Unfortunately, this grade hurt the nursing home's overall grade to a certain degree. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 92.41573 percent of its residents. This is somewhat less than we anticipated but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
