Long-term Care Quality
We gave this place one of our better scores in long-term care, where it received an A-. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. For prospective residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 76 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a few points below what we anticipated but still a respectable figure. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
This facility's inspection score exceeded its overall score as well. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a B. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next area, this nursing home really did not fare very well. With an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this was this nursing home's weakest category grade. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to craft a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. With a grade this poor in this area, we weren't stunned to discover this facility was well below average in many staffing metrics we assess. The facility supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
