Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home really outperformed its overall score in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A+. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A-. Very few facilities fared better in this category. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care ratings. After we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 87.14285 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Despite having 1.86 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes due to it having more complicated patients.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing grade. We gave this facility an D. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the amount of time nurses are caring for residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. Lastly, we also looked at some quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place was above average in two of the major areas we considered, with solid marks for avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are generally good indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's weakest area was short-term care, which is the final category we assessed. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of just D. In our short-term care category, we attempt to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 43.2 percent of its patients returning home.
