Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this place's overall grade is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable grade in the category of inspections. We awarded it a grade of B- for this category, which is not bad. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's second best area ended up being long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 99.612404 percent of its residents against pneumonia. The last statistic we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 3.85 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of patients.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. We assessed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses spent with patients, in determining our grade in this category. This facility provided just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning a patient even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we looked at was short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a rock bottom score here also. It received a lowly F in this area, which is definitely very concerning. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to create a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Given its poor grade, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home provided substantially fewer registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well in this area. In fact, we found that just 36.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
