This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

The next highest area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a B-. In the area of long-term care, we assess the amount of care provided by a nursing home, rather than more medically-intensive services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 87.08709 percent of its residents. This is pretty significantly less than the national average. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. We gave this nursing home an impressive grade of D. Our nursing score is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

The last area we scored was short-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this facility a grade of D in that category. In determining our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Considering its score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this facility was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected here. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
