Registered Staff Hours
Facility Inspections
While we were fairly low on this facility overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Long-term Care Quality
The next best category we gave this nursing home in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. For residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.22222 percent of its residents. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was given just a D in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Given its poor grade in this category, we were not surprised to find this facility offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing, where this nursing home received a rock bottom score in this area also. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is definitely very concerning. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Unfortunately, this nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This facility was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this area. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
