While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it earned a better long-term care grade this year. We gave it a C in that category, which is the closest thing to a bright spot we could find for this place. Our long-term care ratings are vital for patients looking for non-healthcare services such as personal care. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.36 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number can be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of patients.

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Nursing ratings are mostly associated with the facility's nurse staffing. With 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this place surpassed the national average. We also look at the qualifications of nurses and add more weight to hours worked by skilled nurses. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed admirably in this statistic.

We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's inspection grade where it received a lowly F. For facilities with poor inspection scores, you should focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This particular nursing home had 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 34 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Switching gears to our fourth category, this nursing home didn't perform very well here either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. With a score this poor in this area, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home was well below average in several staffing metrics we looked at. In fact, it offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 14.6 percent of its residents returning home.
