Facility Inspections

Grade: A

The main reason this facility received a decent overall grade is its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an A. This is a much better score than the place's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this nursing home a respectable score in the category of long-term care, where it received a C. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.644066 percent of its patients. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. The nursing grade includes quite a few components, however, the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we looked at. It scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we assessed was short-term care, which proved to be this facility's worst category. We gave this facility a D in that area. In crafting our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. As you might expect, we discovered that this facility offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
