Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. In our inspections category, we gave this facility a grade of A-. Inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a solid grade in the category of short-term care, where it received a grade of B-. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is typically a useful measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality
We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. When calculating our nursing scores, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This figure is far below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the number of hours of care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored was long-term care, which turned out to be a weak link for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for long-term care. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 99.44752 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
