Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is generally a solid measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. The nursing score weighs many datapoints, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning residents more often.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was long-term care, which proved to be this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. Nevertheless, you should not judge this facility based solely on a single bad category, as it was given many superb scores in other categories. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
