Facility Inspections
We also would like to point out the fact that this nursing home has earned excellent inspections recently. We gave them an A in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Among its many elite scores, this nursing home was awarded a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. This place excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the typical facility. This is definitely a great sign. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the country with 59.7 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. In computing a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses commit to patients and the skill levels of the nurses. With 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Finally, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining falls which lead to serious injury, this place performed as well as any nursing home in the nation.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a B-. Even though this proved to be its lowest category grade, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. Our long-term care grade is often used to score a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. After looking at the very respectable amount of nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.10448 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than many nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 3.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is somewhat concerning, this statistic may be skewed for some facilities due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
