Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall score, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for the area of inspections. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

An additional strong feature for this nursing home is that it was awarded a very positive long-term care grade. Indeed, this ended up being its second best category grade. In this area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next most favorable area is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is essentially a middle of the pack score in this category. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we analyzed was nursing. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a B-. Nursing scores are primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures. While this place got docked a bit for nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this area. This is often an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of moving residents even once per day.
