Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we want to point out its decent government inspections in recent years. We gave it a somewhat respectable grade of B- in that area. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of C in the area. Our nursing grade is primarily associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home was awarded its next highest category score in the area of short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in this area, which is a reasonably acceptable grade. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest area was long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. For this area, we gave this facility a grade of D. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category may not provide the type of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 90.344826 percent of its patients. This is several points less than what we expected. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
