This facility received a favorable short-term care rating this year. We awarded them a strong grade in that category, with a B. This is a better grade than the facility's overall grade and was a boost to its overall profile. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 4.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an B. There are a number of factors within this category. Many of the factors are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Turning to our inspection category, it appears this facility has received respectable inspections in recent years as well. We gave it a B- in this category. Inspection scores are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to the well being of residents. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

This nursing home's weakest category is long-term care, which is the last area we looked at. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category. Despite several decent scores in other areas, this grade is still alarming so we felt obligated to make sure you are aware. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.53703 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
