Nurse Quality
A
Historical
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our nursing rating. In calculating our nursing scores, we factor in both nursing hours and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning residents more often.
Short-term Care Quality
A
Historical
On the list of its many elite scores, this nursing home was awarded an excellent short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a score of A in that category. With our short-term care assessment, we attempt to craft a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Rhode Island in this area with 59.7 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, at most nursing homes, less than half of their short-term residents return home.

Long-term Care Quality
A-
Historical
Turning our third area, this nursing home was awarded a strong long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a score of A- in that area. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 95.583595 percent of its patients, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.86 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Facility Inspections
B+
Historical
In the last category we assessed, this nursing home also excelled in inspections, where it earned a B+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
