Facility Inspections
Although we did not have many positive things to say about this place's overall score, it earned a somewhat respectable government inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent score in this category with a B-. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This facility received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Lastly, this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.
Nurse Quality
We also ended up giving this facility a fairly respectable grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B-. In computing our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This place averages 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is a very low figure. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home, which is actually below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our final category, this facility received a grade of C for long-term care, which we consider to be a decent grade. In the category of long-term care, we assess the quantity of care offered by a nursing home, as opposed to more sophisticated services. One of the data points we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
