Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Our inspection ratings are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home truly excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Very few nursing homes performed better in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our higher grades in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B. In the category of short-term care, we try to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. It doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we graded is nursing. This facility was given a favorable nursing score in our assessment, with a B-. Even though this wasn't quite as elite as a few of its other grades, this remains a respectable rating for that area. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses are caring for patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This place averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
