We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in this category with an A-. Our inspection ratings are tied to many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home received 9 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

One of this nursing home's higher category grades came in the area of long-term care. This turned out to be its second best category. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. In the area of long-term care, we analyze the amount of care offered by a facility, rather than more sophisticated services. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. When determining our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. This particular facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below average. Finally, while this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this statistic.

The last category we looked at was short-term care. It received an F for this category, which is an abysmal score. This is obviously a significant disappointment. In the category of short-term care, we try to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Based on its score in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this facility is well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 2.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care score.
