While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. Our nursing rating is primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

This nursing home also didn't fare poorly in the category of short-term care. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that area, which is among its higher grades. Our short-term care grades are critical for patients in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The question is whether this adversely affected quality of care. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

This nursing home also didn't perform too badly in the category of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C in that area, which happens to be among its higher scores. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 97.572815 percent of its residents. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The last category we looked at is inspections. This facility didn't receive glowing government inspection reports in recent years. Consequently, we had to give it an F in this category. For places that received this poor of an inspection grade, we recommend scrutinizing the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular facility was hit with 5 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
